Plot Summary
Karan Thapar (Bobby Deol) is the son of a wealthy businessman who lives a lavish lifestyle in London. He is arrogant, spoiled and careless. One day, he gets into a car accident and is saved by Raj Malhotra (Akshay Kumar), a poor orphan who works as a taxi driver. Raj takes Karan to the hospital and pays for his treatment. Karan is grateful to Raj and offers him money, but Raj refuses. Karan insists on befriending Raj and invites him to his mansion. Raj agrees and soon they become inseparable friends.

Raj has a childhood sweetheart, Anjali (Kareena Kapoor), who lives in India. He wants to marry her, but he does not have enough money to do so. He arranges for Raj to meet Anjali in London and also sponsors his music album. Raj is overjoyed and thanks Karan for his generosity.
Karan also falls in love with Kajal Sharma (Lara Dutta), a fashion designer who works for his father's company. Kajal is independent, smart and ambitious. She initially rejects Karan's advances, but later accepts his proposal after seeing his genuine feelings for her. Karan and Kajal get engaged and plan to marry soon.
However, things take a turn for the worse when Karan's father (Kiran Kumar) disapproves of his friendship with Raj. He thinks that Raj is taking advantage of Karan's wealth and kindness. He also does not like Kajal as he considers her to be below their social status. He tries to separate Karan from both Raj and Kajal by various means. She shows him the letter and tells him everything.
Raj is stunned by Karan's sacrifice. He feels guilty for misunderstanding him and leaving him alone. He decides to go back to Karan and stop his wedding. He also tells Kajal that he loves her as a friend and that she belongs with Karan. He asks her to come with him.
